Happy Birthday, H-Dog!

In honor of your birthday, here is a post on the topic of hot sauce....

I don't remember a single bottle of hot sauce in the house growing up. In contrast, we have a baker's dozen variety at all times in our house today. Of course, we also never had bottled bbq sauce growing up. That was made by mixing ketchup, mustard, vinegar, & sugar. Jeepboy likes to call that White Trash BBQ sauce. (This from the boy who had potato chip casserole for dinner frequently as a child.)

One of my favorite hot sauces is Harry's Habanero made by The Boulder Hot Sauce Company. I like Harry's on popcorn, corn on the cob, and fish. On their website they have a recipe that would please H-dog's Iowa roots. You could use the "Spicy Mayo" with a can of veg-all for a dish that would delight... well, the Jello fans- in both salad & dessert camps.

Tabasco Green is my favorite breakfast Hot Sauce. Perfect on eggs and homefries. And when it comes to chicken, I don't think you can beat the Franks & butter combo: Classic "Wing" Sauce.
Prairie Thyme- Peach Habanero Ambrosia is ready to go straight from the bottle. Yum-o. I don't care for Valentina- too much vinegar. =( And while Cholula will do in a pinch, I would rather have Tabasco if given the choice.

Not tired of thinking about hot sauces yet? Here is a blog devoted to the topic. http://www.hotsauceblog.com
