screw the boat tour

When the threat of thunder storms cleared, my co-participants decided to go on the boat tour but I am glad I stuck with plan B(ayless) and headed to Frontera Grill-Topolobampo. Since I was solo, I saddled up to the bar instead of waiting for a table and started with a "summer margarita" with muddled cucumber.

I started with the trio, trio, trio sampler: Ceviche Yucateco- steamed organic shrimp and calamari tossed with lime, orange, habanero, avocado, jícama and cilantro; Ceviche Fronterizo- lime-marinated Hawaiian blue marlin with tomatoes, olives, cilantro, jícama and green chile; and Seaside Cocktail of shrimp and lime-marinated cod.

My choice from the Platillos Pequeños was not as points friendly but amazing. Cazuela de Pollo con Quelites a la Crema- Earthenware cazuela of grilled Gunthorp chicken with Mexican greens, roasted poblano chiles, potatoes, thick cream and homemade fresh cheese; served with warm tortillas for making soft tacos.

It seems unnecessary to rave about the food as I am sure just reading the menu is cruel enough for those trying to eat on the food stamp budget this week.... but yes. It was really damn good.

Update: Took another stroll to balance cream & cheese from my "little plate" and found myself in Trader Joes. Screw Ikea, we need a freaking Trader Joes. Even without anything TSA would try to get me to fit into my quart ziptop bag with my 3.4 oz shampoo, I still managed to find plenty of treats to bring home.

Happy to report that the regular line-up of foodie shows returns this Saturday to Rocky Mtn PBS, so rest assured that I will be sitting on my ass watching cooking shows for 5 hours straight....Its pathetic how much I'm looking forward to it.

It is an absolute crime that we don't have a Trader Joes. The moment we allow liquor sales in grocery stores I'm opening a Trader Joes in NW Denver.

Speaking of 3.4 oz....is there any rule about bringing your own alcohol as long as it's 3.4 oz?

mmmmmm.....delish! No worries, I'm cooking out of Mexico: One Plate at A Time Tonight...because I own a cookbook, and because I can be reasonably creative with substitutions, I am again one lucky gal!

Okay, were you blogging at the bar, did you have a notebook or did you just plain steal a menu to get those detailed notes?!
