RIP Leona Helmsley

Well, the queen of mean died this week, and as I was searching for quotes from Karen Walker, I found this gem.
Discuss among yourselves.

On a lighter note....
This week the final Gilmore Girls aired on CW. (Repeats next week for the Tivo-less.) It was time but I will miss the pop culture banter, the quirky soundtrack and the guest stars ranging from Madeline Albright to Paul Anka.
To mark this milestone, here are a few Lorelai Quotes: //"Oh, you think I don't know that? You think I sit around all day swapping witticisms with Robert Benchley at the Algonquin?" // "It's going to be a bad, depressing Lifetime movie, and Nancy McKeon will be playing me." // "We're not gonna have this fight in a flowery bedroom with dentists singing Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves in the background. It's too David Lynch!" // "But he’s our Boo Radley, and we don’t have a Boo Radley, unless you count the troubadour or Pete the pizza guy or the guy who talks to mailboxes."//

I secretly hope a lesbian feminist abortionist pagan got him . . .
And, I know that I'll hear from them for this. But, throwing God out successfully with the help of the federal court system, throwing God out of the public square, out of the schools. The abortionists have got to bear some burden for this because God will not be mocked. And when we destroy 40 million little innocent babies, we make God mad. I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People for the American Way -- all of them who have tried to secularize America -- I point the finger in their face and say, "You helped this happen."-- Rev Jerry Falwell, blaming civil libertarians, feminists, homosexuals, and abortion rights supporters for the terrorist attacks of Tuesday, September 11, 2001, quoted from John F Harris, "God Gave US 'What We Deserve,' Falwell Says," The Washington Post (September 14, 2001)
Here are a whole bunch of doosies from the Falwell collection.
And, as usual, The Onion got it right in their September 26, 2001 edition: Jerry Falwell: Is That Guy A Dick Or What?

You've wandered so far, from the person you are
Just a line from my favorite song for today . . . The Frog Prince, Keane. They are playing on Monday, May 14 if anyone is interested.
Another favorite of mine today comes from "Ask a Lobbyist", and I quote . . . ''On the other hand, I don’t care if you’re Mormon or Baptist or Jewish or Muslim or whatever other religion, either. But, for some people, the only way to justify their own belief systems is to crap all over someone else’s and call them immoral and say they’re going to hell. Because, of course, there is Absolute Right and Absolute Wrong, and they are the former and everyone else is the latter. Luckily, I figure I’ll know a lot of legitimately cool people in hell, so maybe the whole hellfire and brimstone thing won't be so bad if I've got good company."

Shut up and Sing - you'll win some Grammys!

"Heh-Heh" (To quote Natalie, quoting the Simpsons)
Vindication!!! You don't need to like country music, only freedom of speech (you know, one of the Bills of Rights) to feel proud to be an American tonight watching the Grammys. Way to go, Music World, for not only honoring the Dixie Chicks as musicians, but as Americans who refused to back down for having an opinion and stating it.
To anyone who's ever been told "Just go along with it" or "Cooperate", hear this: If you believe in your heart and soul that you have something to stand for, then don't make nice or back down. This country is a better place because of the people who didn't just "Shut up and Sing".

I'm not sure when I became eccentric, but I think I am now."
Jeep Boy Quote of the Week:
On driving home from the Habitat Restore with our new water heater: "Odd how people steer clear of old Volvos with temporary plates and anti-war stickers with huge cylidrical objects in the back. I'm not sure when I became eccentric, but I think I am now."

jeepboy quote of the morning...

"Oh Christ, Now I am going to see this on the blog."
Anthropomorphism is common in our house. This morning Ateball was digging under the blue spruce in the backyard to bury her treasures. When I suggested she might be emulating the gifts under the Christmas tree, Jeepboy actually thought about it for a moment. But the quote of the morning came after he realized what he had done and said:, "Oh Christ, Now I am going to see this on the blog."
