Martha, Martha, Martha

I have been in bed for the last two days treating a cold with rest, plenty of fluids, and a humidifier. I can't recall the last time I took two days off work to be sick. I have had plenty of time to catch up on my Martha.

Fine Living Network has just launched Whatever Martha where Alexis Stewart and Jennifer Koppelman Hutt mock old video footage of early Martha Stewart programming. (IC- Alexis & Jennifer also have a radio show on the Sirius Martha channel.)

I also caught Martha's regular show (the same one that plays on broadcast tv but is re-run on FLN) on the topic of blogging.

And moving along to the REAL issues...

I love NYT graphics. That's just the kind of gal I am. This (oh, you have to go to the Series Index and scroll over to the American Way of Debt graphic) looked a lot better and was more fun to explore in the actual paper, but did you know:

Let's Hope for an A Student?

This is old news, but recently refreshed in our minds thanks to CD2E's Pop--why our President is proud of being a mediocre student and thinks it's funny says a lot about his value of education and resulting policies.

Maybe not an issue to decide the election upon, but I have to wonder (as I can't seem to find reliable information) if this isn't something we voters should aspire to. Or not.

Perhaps it is after all, just a mark of being book-learned in a skewed system.

Home of the 20 minute wait/Smoke-free Hotels

We have just returned from Mead Street and have good news to report. They have acquired additional church pews and have re-arranged their dining space. They ripped out the useless floating bar and added more booths and tables. Perhaps now the wait really will be 20 minutes! They have also updated their menu recently to include many pear & blue cheese combos (damn their timing!) that sound delicious. (The online menu hasn't been updated yet.)

Also, on an unrelated note- David Sedaris was on Daily Show earlier this week. Damn, he is funny. He discusses how he recently quit smoking because all the good hotels have gone smoke free and he got sick of staying at Amerisuites on the highway during book tours.

it was not supposed to happen like this

When i got up this morning i was going to have breakfast with a friend then go to the gym and be a productive citizen. Instead I had breakfast with the friend, and bloody mary's, and mimosas, and martinis, and beers. 10 hours later, I'm drunk. Have mocked everyone on the 16th street mall, and am about to go to a fundraiser with a US Senator. Good god. I need rehab.

And I said no, no, no.

1:00 am update. it went downhill from there. there is photo evidence of me groping the US Senator. at least it wasn't at the gov's mansion.

Self-indulgent life update

This blog is boring lately. I'm partly to blame. And, as a disclaimer, much of what I have to report I can't write in a public forum. Here's the quick run-down.

1. I'm a drunken whore.
2. There is one week left in the legislative session, and I almost punched another lobbyist in the face last week.
3. This summer I will be traveling the state writing restaurant and activity reviews for a respectable publication. If anyone wants to join me, please let me know.
4. I have tickets to go see Death Cab for Cutie at Red Rocks. I'm contemplating seeing REM.
5. I have found a new love for Hole and Foo Fighters in my Ipod. You should click on these links, they are youtube videos of some of your forgotten favorite songs. I swear you will not be disappointed.
6. I have lost 25 pounds since Christmas, thanks to weight watchers and the damned gym.
7. I'm still supporting Hillary Clinton for president.
8. The new-to-me car is still running great and can't wait to get on the road for the summer.

In need of medical/construction opinion

So, I've been sick for months. It started with influenza in January (an actual medical diagnosis by a certified Md), then went on to tonsillitis (nurse diagnosis), and a mild case of food poisoning (self-diagnosis). Here's the thing ... Whenever I spend more than 24 hours in my apartment (aka, weekends) I wake up with a sore throat, sometimes a mild fever, and loss of my voice (some might find this an ok symptom, but I hate it).

Also, I recently (the past 2 months) am cleaning a fine white dust off of every surface ... most noticeable on the TV. Since I've given up smoking inside my apartment (and nearly everywhere else except on special occasions) and there is no construction happening in or around my house, I'm wondering what the heck this is and if it is causing my weekend illness. Any guesses? I can't get in to my doctor until mid-May for a physical.

Stupid warning labels.

My wine club shipment arrived via Fed Ex this week. There was a warning that not only did I need to be 21 and sign for the box but they could not deliver if recipient appeared intoxicated. Does Fed Ex think they are so fast that drunks can order the next round?

That is as dumb as say a fertility drug with a warning that you should talk to your doctor if you are or may become pregnant.

Up to the Minute: WTF News

Couldn't sleep last night and ended up watching Up to the Minute overnight news... a recipe for conspiracy theory nightmares.

By now you have probably all heard that Denver was one of the 24 cities where they found Drugs in the Water. I found this statement in the story to be very alarming: "Arlington, Texas, acknowledged that traces of a pharmaceutical were detected in its drinking water but cited post-9/11 security concerns in refusing to identify the drug." Telling people what drugs are in their bodies is a 9/11 security concern? WTF?

There was also a story on the therapeutic interchange whistleblower. In googling to find a link to post here I found a wide variety of coverage and perspective on this one. The CBS story was in their typical government-waste-tax-dollars tone. I am sure that if I took the time to read everything it would boil down to Pharma's evilness.

And to top it off I am tired from middle of the night news watching.
