Neighborhood Association Meeting Minutes

These are actual minutes. I couldn't make this shit up.

"There has been lots of discussion over the various monikers of ourneighborhood. The neighborhood is recognized by the city as Highland (no‘s’) for over 20 years. (We’re Federal to 38th ave. to I-25 to Speer) Afew years back, a well intentioned merchants association attempted toget people to call Highland, Lower Highland, or LoHi. The intent wastwo-fold: to differentiate Highland from West Highlands (west of Federaland known for it’s main business area, 32nd & Lowell) and to market theneighborhood as a whole in order to promote neighborhood pride andgenerate business for our residing merchants. Sadly, the result was brand confusion. The press calls our neighborhood one thing, Realtors call our neighborhood another and the average person, well, just look atCraig’s List and you can see that the average person hasn’t a clue what to call our neighborhood. So, from this point forward, we are askingeveryone to call the neighborhood once again, by it’s true name,HIGHLAND. The HUNI board will be sending a letter out in the next fewmonths to realtors, press, merchants and other parties that mistakenly call us something other than the neighborhood’s name and ask them to usethe proper name Highland. We ask if you come across someone who uses adifferent name, please ask them to stop and use Highland.

Since I know you’re thinking it, Potter Highlands is a sub-section ofthe Highland neighborhood. It is a historic district with landmarkdesignation recognized by the city. The Scottish Village is also asub-section and a historic district, but does not have a landmarkdesignation.

Our next steps are to start a public relations campaign to promote the neighborhood."
