Just vote no update

Here is a list of all the crap on the November ballot (thanks to the Rocky Mountian News):

. Referendum E: Extends the senior property tax break to disabled veterans.

. Referendum F: Modifies recall election laws.

. Referendum G: Repeals obsolete constitutional provisions.

. Referendum H: Eliminates state business tax deductions for employers who can't verify their employees are U.S. citizens.

. Referendum I: Provides same-sex couples the opportunity to attain the
legal protections and responsibilities granted to married couples by
Colorado law. It specifies that a domestic partnership is not similar to a
marriage.

. Referendum J: Requires school districts to spend a portion of their
budgets on certain operations.

. Referendum K: Authorizes the state attorney general to sue the federal
government to demand enforcement of federal immigration laws.

. Amendment 38: Makes it easier for citizens to propose initiatives at all
levels of state and local government.

. Amendment 39: Similar to Referendum J, it puts requirements on school
district spending.

. Amendment 40: Limits terms that Colorado Supreme Court and Court of
Appeals judges can serve.

. Amendment 41: Among other things, bans public employees from accepting
meals, sporting tickets and other freebies worth $50 or more.

. Amendment 42: Raises the minimum wage from $5.15 per hour to $6.85 per
hour for most workers, and makes annual adjustments for inflation.

. Amendment 43: Defines marriage in Colorado as only a union between one man
and one woman.

. Amendment 44: Legalizes the possession of up to 1 ounce of marijuana by
adults 21 years and older.

Okay I am not voting no on everything (yes on I, G, and 44) but basically it is a NO year!

What is the hidden evil behind 42? Why does that not make SNG Yes list?

There's no hidden evil, just some provisions that may come back to haunt us later, like:
-it's in the constitution, thus requiring a vote NEXT time we want to change the wage
-if the indexing for inflation or of hourly to tipped employees' wages is somehow screwed up, it's in the constitution, and we have to VOTE on it to make a change

And, can you believe I'm saying this??!?, minimum wage is not a livable wage, so I'll be voting no, too. I'm concerned with raising the standard of living, and $6.85 an hour just isn't going to do it.

BTW, Leg. Council estimates that less than 1% earn minimum wage. And that's just the legal workers. My concern lies with raising the living wage for all people, and this CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT doesn't do it.

I don't believe there has been an attempt to raise the minimum wage legislatively in Colorado. I would lobby for support on that first. I would also be likely support a minimum wage raise at the federal level.
