I’m so offended, and that’s hard to do

Today and Army Sergeant intimated that the Tillman family cannot let go of Pat Tillman’s death because they don’t believe in an afterlife. Though I can’t find it on Amazon.com, I know there is a book out there on a critique of the uprising of the teaching of Christian belief in the military. I’ve seen the book at the capitol so I know it exists, and a local liberal funder is hoping to make it movie. In any event, this turn of events in appalling. I think questioning our government’s propaganda is a basic tenant of being an American. For this comment, I’m surely under investigation right now. Good thing I’m stealing internet access from my neighbor.

In other idiotic news, a soldier questioned why flags are flown at half-staff for the VT students and not for dead soldiers. Uh, maybe because going to class at an American university is not anticipated as a dangerous activity, where going to war might be seen as putting yourself in the line of danger. In one case the killer is seen as a mentally ill miscreant, in the other, the well-armed and military-fatigued killer is seen as the aggressor. You choose.

I can't find the book either, but think that this is a relevant story from NPR earlier this year:

In browsing around the hateful religious commentary, found myself at another blog -
www.crooksandliars.com -
with this inspiring bit of news:

"If this wasn’t published directly on the Pentagon’s website - http://www.defenselink.mil/utility/printitem.aspx?print=http://www.defenselink.mil/news/newsarticle.aspx?id=32931 -
, I’d swear it was some kind of parody, meant to make the Bush administration look foolish.

Extended overseas deployments affecting soldiers serving in Afghanistan and other locales overseen by U.S. Central Command should help to alleviate the stress on the Army, a senior U.S. officer in Afghanistan told Pentagon reporters today.

“I’m absolutely confident that that’s going to work and that’ll manage the pressure and the stress on the force,” Army Col. Martin Schweitzer, commander of the 82nd Airborne Division’s 4th Brigade Combat Team, said during a satellite-carried news conference. […]

The tour extensions will provide more predictability and stability for soldiers and their families, [Army Lt. Gen. Raymond T. Odierno] said, noting the policy “will ensure 12 months at home station between rotations.”

I would be okay with the flags being at half-staff as long as this war continues. Thinking that Shrub would not be down with that.
