Today is the domestic diva's birthday. In honor of the occasion, here is a funny little story about Then Gov Romer & Martha.
And here is interesting info-from Martha's mag Body + Soul - on when organic matters. (Web link is grumpy so I cut & paste the content below for easy reading.)
"Given its sometimes steep prices and limited stocks, organic produce can be difficult to buy every trip to the grocery store. When faced with not-so-great choices, weigh the pesticide factor. Tests conducted by the nonprofit Environmental Working Group (EWG) found that certain types of produce consistently contain higher traces of agricultural chemicals than others.Use this chart to decide when to go organic and when conventional will do. (Find details of the EWG report at foodnews.org.)
CHOOSE ORGANIC : apples, bell peppers, celery, cherries, imported grapes, nectarines, peaches, pears, potatoes, red raspberries, spinach, & strawberries
GET BY WITH CONVENTIONAL: asparagus, avocados, bananas, broccoli, cauliflower, corn (sweet), kiwis, mangoes, onions, papayas, peas (sweet), & pineapples"

In (my) summary, anything with a hard outer shell or peel that will be removed is safe to buy conventional.
If you're eating the outside of the fruit/veg, buy organic.
Thanks Marthas for the great info!
